It has been a long time since there has been any change in the topmost level of leadership in the Mormon Church.
The First Presidency has comprised the same three men since 1995 but the church has announced the death of James E Faust, second counselor in the First Presidency.
James Faust was 87 and died of "causes incident to old age".
See here for the official
Mormon newsroom story.
The Mormon Church president is celebrated for his longevity and, at 97 years of age, seems capable of running around the block a few more times.
His first counselor, Thomas S Monson, is a 'young' 80. Nevertheless changes will come sooner rather than later and it will be interesting to see how
these changes will affect the direction and growth of the church in the coming years. The regime has a history of swinging from friendly and relatively
liberal to reactionary and conservative. Watch this space.
