| News - Jerald Tanner Dies | |||||
Printer Friendly Version - opens in separate window We have received news that Jerald Tanner passed away from this life and into the presence of His Lord at about 7:20 p.m. last night Sunday). Funeral arrangements are pending but a memorial service is being planned for next Saturday.Mike Thomas writes: As we have, over the years, sought to understand our own Mormon background and help others' come to terms with theirs we have often thanked the Lord for Jerald and Sandra Tanner. As we have written and dug deep in our researches we have consistently found that the Tanners have always been there before us. They have a global reputation among both those who minister to Mormons and Mormons themselves. To the former they have been a blessing whose worth is immeasurable, to the latter they have been objects of sneaking admiration and/or hate figures for daring to address the question "Mormonism, Shadow or Reality?" Through their reproduction of Mormon documents they have been an invaluable resource to those who have come after them. At one time BYU teachers were censured for using the work of the Tanners as an accurate historical resource in their research. They have been involved first hand in all the controversies surrounding Mormonism in the last half century, from the Negroes and the priesthood controversies of the sixties and seventies, through the Salt Lake City bombings of the 1980's, to the controversial leadership issues of the nineties. If you want to understand what is really happening you turn to the Tanners. The death of Jerald Tanner is a great loss to this ministry as well as to his family and friends and we pray that the Lord will continue with Sandra, their family and those who know them best and love them most. Mormons will be throwing a party today - but then so will heaven. Tribute in Salt Lake Tribune Back to the headlines ![]() |
