Many will be relieved when the Da Vinci Code is finally released on Friday
but undoubtedly all the hype will have increased box office sales. Of
course, the subject matter already guaranteed controversy. Declaring Jesus
to be married may be accepted by groups such as the Latter-day Saints
(Mormons) but the millions of Christians around the world were bound to
complain and draw attention to the book.
The way many regard soap stars as real, shows that people cannot always
discern between fact and fiction, and we end up in the murky world of
"faction". Make no mistake the Da Vinci Code is fiction and as a 'spy
novel' is very readable but only a cursory investigation reveals that
it is not factual.
Television programmes and media articles abound at present. Discover the
real Da Vinci Code; uncover the truth behind the book; but the very advertising
of the programmes, although often disagreeing with Dan Brown's conclusions,
are misleading and unhelpful. There is no 'real' Da Vinci Code or 'truth'
behind the story.
Reachout Trust, like many other groups has received many enquiries and
their place is not simply to confirm that the story is not true but to
help Christians present the truth.
Doug Harris, Director of the Trust said, "In
the 25 years that we have been dealing with that which is false we have
discovered that there is nothing more likely to expose the lie than to
proclaim the truth. The 'original' Jesus is so much better that the false
one portrayed in this story."
Reachout Trust has looked into many conspiracy theories over the years,
whether to do with the Millennium, UFOs or whatever, but each one has
been show to simply be a mystery tour that never really leads to the truth
but weaves a web of intrigue and always leaves the seeker to look for
a further missing piece.
Doug Harris further explained, "Once a conspiracy
theory reveals all the answers it is no longer a mystery and people soon
lose interest. There must always be parts that you have to keep seeking
for. The true Jesus however said He came to bring revelation and not leave
any mysteries. It is amazing how many do not accept the simply clear truth
of the Gospel but would rather be left in the dark with no hope of ever
finding answers."
Reachout Trust looks at the release of the film as an opportunity to proclaim
the truth and let people decide which is best - the original or the copy!
