Peniel Pentecostal Church is not unused to controversy
and once again, they find themselves on the front page of the local
newspaper.
The Brentwood and District Evangelical Fellowship used to consist of
15 members but now it simple has one, Peniel led by Bishop Michael Reid.
The other 14 churches have resigned their membership.
The local Gazette reported,
"An anonymous letter to the Gazette said church leaders had agreed unanimously
not to work with the Peniel's Bishop Michael Reid and his team."
At present, no further reasons have been given publicly but there are
many "off-the-record" statements being made and this story will probably
run for a while yet.
The Evangelical Alliance has received details of bank statements so
there can be no accusation of fraud and they have been asked to mediate
between Bishop Reid and those who have left.
A Peniel spokesman is reported to have said that they cannot understand
the decision and they have contacted the Evangelical Alliance for clarification.
As a result of this intervention, and the pursuant conversations, Peniel
has since resigned its membership of the Evangelical Alliance.
