The New Age is like the symbol of the rainbow which it often uses. It covers many different shades of belief and takes in a whole spectrum of practices. The New Age is not really new at all. Many of its principles go back thousands of years. There is disagreement as to whether the New Age has started or is about to start. There is also disagreement whether a Messiah figure will lead us into it or whether we will "attune" ourselves to it. However, all those involved to believe that the New Age is about to come.

It is a river of belief today that has been made up of many different tributaries. It is at the same time both diverse and yet has a common goal. It contains both those who have "spiritual" experiences and those who would class themselves as pagan.
