There was a small rise of 399 (0.31%) in the number of peak publishers (125797) but the average publishers (120478) fell by 323 (0.26%) between 2002 and 2003.

We can also see from the further tables and information below that things have not gone well over the past 10 years.

If you start with the number of average publishers in 1994 and add the number of baptisms over the past 10 years we discover that the Society should have had 153031 average publishers last year. Instead the actual figure is 120478.

This means the Society has lost 32,553 (21.27%) active members in the past 10 years or over 3,200 per year. Whereas some of them will be by natural death, we must ask the question, why have so many left. What is interesting about the death rate is they appear to lose very few if you consider the relatively small drop in those who partake of the memorial meal, all of which must be getting into their 80s!

Once again in 2003, for the second time since 1996, baptism actually increased. However this time it was by 7 or 0.27%

The table below first shows the number of hours that have been put in by each average publisher. It is significant that average monthly hours have dropped again to 147.34.

Next we show the number of hours it takes to produce one Bible Study. Even with the increase in Bible Studies mentioned below it still took an average of 403.04 hours on the doors to start one Bible Study.

Whereas there again has been an increase (7.62%) in the number of Bible Studies in 2003 from 40,923 to 44,044 this should be seen in the overall decline in the last 10 years. Indeed this only puts it back to the levels achieved in 1996/7 and over 27% down from 1994.
